The Brighter Side

Bringing out The Brighter Side
ITV's CR Report 2009

As the UK’s biggest commercial investor in television content, and home to the most popular drama and entertainment on TV last year, ITV has a special responsibility to our viewers, our employees and the wider creative community.

We take that responsibility very seriously. Our business success depends on the trust, loyalty and enthusiasm of our viewers and the thousands of talented people employed at ITV.

Our core responsibility of course is to produce great programmes that inform, entertain and touch the lives of our millions of viewers across the country. Our programmes often raise important social issues and when they do, our priority is to ensure that they are handled in a responsible way and we guide our viewers to where they can get any further support and information they need. At the same time we take every step to ensure that we maintain the trust of our viewers by upholding the highest editorial and consumer protection standards both on air and online. Using our skills, resources and air time we also go beyond our core responsibilities to support life-changing causes, bringing The Feelgood Factor to communities nationally and in the regions.

As Britain’s foremost producer-broadcaster, the creativity and dedication of our people is absolutely fundamental to what we do. We strive for exemplary employment practices including a strong focus on health and safety. We engage with ITV employees to help them use their unique skills and talents for the greater social good through a wide range of volunteering opportunities Our employment of permanent and contract employees and significant spend in UK independent production makes ITV one of the biggest commercial contributors to the UK creative economy. ITV’s environmental impact is low in comparison to many FSTE250 companies, but we aim to reduce it wherever possible.
