About CR at ITV

Corporate responsibility (CR) at ITV covers a wide range of activities and issues. An important challenge is to ensure that everyone working for ITV is aware of the CR issues relevant to their work and understands the importance of making responsible decisions.

Our future success depends on delivering high quality content to viewers in a way that helps them feel confident about the standards of our programmes and interactive services. It is therefore important that our approach to CR is aligned to the business strategy and is implemented effectively.

CR governance structure

Andy Doyle, Group HR Director is responsible for reporting CR performance to the Board of ITV plc.

Our CR Committee is responsible for reviewing ITV’s material CR issues, formulating strategies for improved CR management and communicating them internally. The committee comprises members from the core business units as well as key business functions. Andy Doyle, who sits on the ITV Management Board, chairs the CR Committee.

In 2009, the CR Committee met twice. It reviewed ITV’s CR objectives, ITV’s employee volunteering scheme and forthcoming compliance issues such as the Carbon Reduction Commitment.

Our CR priorities

The CR Committee regularly reviews our CR priorities, taking into account the opinions of a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. We reviewed our priorities last year and agreed to:

  • A clearer articulation of our CR Strategy
  • Focus on activities which are integral to the business
  • Re-engage our employees

We also agreed a unifying theme for all our activities which we call The Feelgood Factor. This theme chimes with our commitment to health and activity, represents our core values and is designed to make people feel good about ITV.

The Feelgood Factor has three areas of focus:

  • Participation - engaging our viewers in social issues and making an impact through our programming and online presence
  • People - re-engaging our employees to make ITV a great place to work
  • Planet to ensure that we continue to limit our impacts on the environment and engage fully with the Carbon Reduction Commitment efficiency scheme which came into effect in April 2010

These focus areas complement our work on other significant CR issues which include:

  • Compliance with Public Service Broadcasting (PSB) quotas
  • Charitable and community investment
  • People management
  • Health and safety
  • Supply chain management
