Training and development
Every year, employees participate in an annual performance development review, which assesses their progress towards personal objectives and identifies areas where they would benefit from training and development. In 2009, 83% of employees took part, up from 54% in 2008. Our goal is for 100% of employees to participate in a review in 2010.
In 2009, due to financial constraints we focused on essential skills training and support for people whose posts were made redundant, as well as those remaining at ITV.
Essential skills training includes courses on project management, time management and presentation skills, as well as people management courses for managers. Employees have access to our online Development Guide which includes information about training opportunities and helps them identify which courses would be right for them. We also provide new employee induction and policy compliance courses on our company intranet site.
Our Colleagues United initiative provides employees with the chance to learn from their colleagues, by spending a day shadowing or working with people from other departments. In 2009 we offered over 500 such opportunities, and it proved very popular.
Employees also had the opportunity to gain new skills and experiences through our Volunteering Scheme, re-launched in 2009. Read more about the scheme and the benefits it brings to communities
In 2010, we aim to increase the training we offer to employees by enhancing our core skills and management training programmes, and by running events that introduce employees to the training and development on offer. We are also investing in leadership programmes that will develop the decision making skills of our high performing employees.
