“Everybody at ITV appreciates the significance of corporate responsibility to their job. The specific issues differ across our business, but the common thread is that acting with integrity and with the best interests of the viewer in mind is always the right decision.”
John Cresswell
Chief Operating Officer
CR issues in broadcasting are many and varied. We engage widely to ensure that we are aware of all the issues and are in touch with emerging subjects. We talk extensively to the regulator Ofcom and with government representatives. We meet with investors and industry peers to discuss CR. We consult our employees and have started to survey viewers about CR.
We view our CR issues under three main categories: those to do with what we broadcast (’On air’ issues), those to do with our online businesses (’Online’ issues) and those to do with how we operate (’Behind the scenes’ issues).
Our ‘On air’ issues include editorial standards applied to news and current affairs programming, representation of social issues in drama and soaps, advertising standards and community access.
Our ‘Online’ issues include standards for internet programming, protecting vulnerable customers, social networking issues and responsible gaming.
Our ‘Behind the scenes’ issues include our environmental impacts, employment, health and safety and our impact on the creative economy.
