ITV Head First Winner, WWF, launches "A Prescription for Nature"

ITV is proudly supporting the WWF to encourage the nation to get their “daily dose” of nature, showing how it's possible for everyone, wherever you live, to benefit from nature.

The World Wide Fund for Nature’s (WWF) new ad campaign - Prescription for Nature - aired on ITV1 last week, funded by the £1m airtime prize from our Head First award - our advertising initiative that shines a spotlight on mental wellbeing and builds on our  long-running Britain Get Talking campaign

The 60 second ad highlights how connecting with nature can help us thrive, and features This Morning’s own, Dr Sara Kayat.

Alongside the ad, the WWF has created an online hub aimed at both individuals and families with bite-sized and personalised “prescriptions” to help people get out into nature more - no matter the circumstances or the weather.

9 in 10 Brits say spending time in nature has a positive effect on their mental health, and yet only a third do so once a week or less. Just 20 minutes of nature on average per day can boost mood, help to cope with stress, reduce anxiety and raise confidence.

With UK nature in crisis and it becoming increasingly difficult for people to access nature on a regular basis, the WWF has also created an online toolkit so nature’s therapy can be brought into the home. It offers a range of resources, events and activities that help young people and their families get their fill of nature and increase their connection to the natural world. From weekly forest adventures; experiencing the sensations of each season in your local park; to propagating houseplants; growing herbs or enjoying the soothing sounds of the Amazon rainforest while at home, there is a daily dose of this nature to suit everyone’s lifestyle.

Time in nature is not a replacement for other treatment approaches to mental health, but it can have positive benefits. The WWF’s Prescription for Nature is a self-prescription that everyone can benefit from to improve and maintain their mental health, however they are feeling on any day. If you’re concerned that you’re developing a mental health problem, you should speak to your GP or call 111 for advice. If you need urgent help, call 999 or go to A&E.
